Types of Traveler Visas for the Maldives

Tourist Visa

Tourist visas are issued to all nationalities upon arrival in the Maldives. Therefore, tourists do not need pre-approval for their visa before traveling. However, they must meet basic entry requirements to receive immigration clearance upon arrival.

The basic entry requirements include:

  • A passport or travel document with a Machine Readable Zone (MRZ) and at least 1 month of validity. Passports with extended validity are not accepted for entry.
  • A complete travel itinerary, including confirmed return tickets, a prepaid hotel booking at a registered hotel, proof of sufficient funds to support the stay, or a pre-approved visa sponsorship from Maldives Immigration.
  • Proof of entry requirements for onward destinations, such as visa and passport validity.
  • A Traveler Declaration must be completed and submitted electronically via IMUGA within 96 hours of the flight time.
  • A Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate, if applicable. Children under 1 year of age are exempt. Click here to check the list of Yellow Fever endemic countries.

Children and minors must have their own passport to enter the Maldives.

Transit travelers are those passing through the Maldives on their way to another country without clearing Maldivian immigration.

Having a complete travel itinerary (including return tickets, prepaid hotel bookings at registered hotels, or proof of sufficient funds to support the stay) does not guarantee entry into the Maldives. Entry will be determined at the port of entry by Immigration officers, in accordance with Sections 7 and 8 of The Maldives Immigration Act 2007.

  • Entry into the Maldives is not guaranteed even with a complete travel plan (including confirmed return tickets, prepaid accommodation at registered hotels, or proof of sufficient financial resources). Entry will be permitted at the port of entry based on the immigration officer’s determination of eligibility, in accordance with Sections 7 and 8 of The Maldives Immigration Act 2007.
