At the invitation of His Excellency Mr. Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, and Minister for Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, the Maldivian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Moosa Zameer, has embarked on an official visit to China from July 19 to 24, 2024.
The visit aims to review and build upon the progress made following President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s State Visit to China earlier this year in January. A key focus of Minister Zameer’s visit will be to address critical areas of bilateral interest. Minister Zameer is scheduled to hold official talks with his Chinese counterpart, Mr. Wang Yi, to further strengthen the historic and close ties between the Maldives and China.
Beyond discussions with Minister Wang Yi, Minister Zameer will engage with senior Chinese government officials. These meetings are expected to concentrate on enhancing cooperation in sectors that have significantly contributed to the economic development of the Maldives.
A prominent feature of the visit will be Minister Zameer’s engagements with leading Chinese companies. These firms have played a crucial role in various development projects within the Maldives, and discussions will explore new avenues for sustained and enhanced cooperation.
Minister Zameer is accompanied by Dr. Mohamed Shafeeq, Minister of Finance, Dr. Abdulla Muthalib, Minister of Construction and Infrastructure, and senior officials from the Government of Maldives. This high-level delegation underscores the significance of the visit and the commitment to fostering stronger economic and diplomatic ties.
This visit highlights the importance of Maldives-China relations and aims to build upon the outcomes of previous high-level engagements, fostering stronger economic and diplomatic ties between the two nations.
As the Maldives seeks to further its development goals and strengthen its international partnerships, the outcomes of Minister Zameer’s visit to China are eagerly anticipated by both nations.
