Malé, Maldives – The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) will soon commence boat building services, according to CEO Abdulla Ziyad. Speaking at MTCC’s Annual General Meeting last night, Ziyad revealed that work on the boat repair yard is nearing completion, paving the way for the launch of boat building services.
“Our goal is to be a boat building company by next year’s Annual General Meeting,” Ziyad stated in response to a shareholder’s question.
He emphasized that MTCC will continue beneficial projects initiated by the previous government without interruption.
“We are not dismissing the former management’s plans. They aimed to expand dredging and various construction-related activities. We will carry on these efforts for the company’s benefit,” Ziyad said.
He also announced that MTCC has been organizing arrangements to start boat building work. A feasibility study has been completed with the assistance of technical experts, as highlighted in the company’s 2023 annual report.
According to the report, efforts are underway to increase the capacity of the boat yard, which currently provides docking services to 222 vessels, to accommodate boats up to 2000 tonnes. The boatyard has also been renamed from MTCC Boat Yard to MTCC Ship Yard.
This expansion is part of MTCC’s broader strategy to enhance its services and contribute to the maritime industry in the Maldives.
