Ooredoo Maldives has officially extended its services through the international PEACE cable, enhancing connectivity for the nation. This marks the first-ever international submarine cable establishment outside of Greater Malé, with work beginning in Kulhudhuffushi City in February 2024. The cable has now been connected to the landing site in the northernmost city.
The announcement was made during a press conference on Wednesday evening, commemorating Ooredoo Maldives’ 19th anniversary. CEO and Managing Director Khalid Al-Hamadi hailed the establishment of the PEACE cable, which links the Maldives with Singapore and Europe, as a landmark achievement. He emphasized that the new submarine cable will significantly enhance connectivity, reducing lags and interruptions. “I am certain customers will receive full benefit from this investment,” said Al-Hamadi.
Previously, Ooredoo Maldives highlighted that the PEACE cable would bolster 5G connectivity across the country and enable the company to offer new and exciting services to its customers.
To celebrate its 19th anniversary on August 1st, Ooredoo Maldives also introduced a range of new services and exclusive offers.
The PEACE Cable, which stands for ‘Pakistan and East Africa Connecting Europe’, is a submarine cable project aimed at facilitating faster data transmissions between Asia, Europe, and Africa. The cable became fully operational in December 2022.
