Beijing, China – On July 23, 2024, the Governments of the Maldives and the People’s Republic of China signed a Letter of Exchange in Beijing to conduct a feasibility study for the proposed redevelopment of Male’ and Villimale’ roads. The agreement was signed by Dr. Abdulla Muththalib, Minister of Construction and Infrastructure for the Maldives, and H.E. Luo Zhaohui, Chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA).
Earlier this year, during his state visit, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced China’s commitment to providing 920 million Yuan ($130 million) in grant aid to the Maldives for various development projects. The redevelopment of Male’ and Villimale’ roads is among the major projects to be funded through this grant.
The feasibility study, initiated by the agreement signed today, marks the first step towards the implementation of this significant infrastructure project.
