Maldivian, the national airline of the Maldives, announced a major expansion of its distribution network through a strategic partnership with Amadeus Global Distribution System (Amadeus GDS), effective July 25, 2024. This collaboration aims to enhance travel accessibility and convenience for travel partners and customers.
Starting August 14, 2024, all IATA-accredited BSP travel agents in India can issue e-tickets for Maldivian flights via Amadeus GDS. Initially, only select agents will have this capability using the Q2-986 ticket plate.
Ismail Amrah Umar, Maldivian’s Acting Chief Commercial Officer, highlighted that this expansion offers seamless travel opportunities within the airline’s growing route network.
Maldivian currently operates 13 non-stop weekly flights to three Indian destinations from Velana International Airport: four to Cochin, five to Thiruvananthapuram, and two to Bengaluru on Airbus A320 aircraft, along with two weekly flights from Hanimaadhoo to Thiruvananthapuram on a Dash8-300 aircraft.
The expansion enhances connectivity and travel options between India and the Maldives, offering travel agents a single itinerary for a range of holidays. Maldivian’s domestic network includes 17 airports, further improving travel convenience.
Additionally, Maldivian has interline partnerships with major airlines like Emirates and Etihad Airways, with more partnerships expected soon.
