The Ministry of Climate Change, Environment, and Energy is seeking investors to install 15 megawatts of solar panels across thirteen islands under the Accelerating Renewable Energy Integration and Sustainable Energy (ARISE) programme. The project aims to enhance renewable energy capacity and will follow a design, build, finance, own, operate, and transfer policy.
Bidding opens on October 22 and will adhere to international competitive procurement standards. The initiative includes installing 2 megawatts on six islands in Laamu Atoll and 13 megawatts on seven other islands.
The project is expected to save 6 million litres of fuel annually and cut government fuel costs by MVR 48 million. The government aims to increase renewable energy production to 33% of total energy within five years, with several other projects planned to support this goal.
