Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) and the Uligan Council have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to improve maritime services and develop a yacht marina in Haa Alif Uligan. The agreement was formalized at a ceremony at the Uligan Council, with MPL Chief Executive Officer Mohamed Wajeeh Ibrahim representing the company.
The MoU details MPL’s commitment to constructing a yacht marina in Uligan, complete with comprehensive facilities for yachts. CEO Mohamed Wajeeh announced that work on the marina would commence this year, with the project expected to be completed within six months. The marina concept has been finalized and is currently being discussed with investors.
This initiative supports President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s vision to expand the Maldives’ maritime sector. Uligan, a historically popular destination for yachts, has faced challenges due to inadequate services. The development of the yacht marina aims to address these issues and boost the local economy.
Additionally, MPL plans to construct offices for international banking and maritime services, creating new job opportunities in the region. This project marks a significant step in enhancing Uligan’s infrastructure and services, making it a more attractive destination for international visitors.
